French doors and hinged doors bring a beautiful sense of flow to your home — the kind of effortless movement between indoors and outdoors that makes everyday living feel lighter and more connected. Whether you choose them to open inwards or outwards, they create a welcoming transition that suits the way you live.
When the door flanges sit outside the cladding, such as on weatherboard homes, outward opening French and hinged doors can open a full 180 degrees, giving you that wide, breezy opening that makes entertaining a joy. On brick veneer or concrete block homes, the opening angle is more limited, but the doors still offer a generous, elegant feel.
PVC U door frames are beautifully solid, so we recommend sizing the door slightly larger to achieve a comfortable, clear opening that feels spacious and inviting.
Every Homerit French and hinged door is fitted with German made multi point locking hardware, giving you the highest level of security with a smooth, confident closing action.
French doors can be designed with two panels — either equal or with one wider than the other — depending on the look and function you prefer.
Traditionally, the left panel opens first when viewed from outside, but you can choose the right panel to open first if it better suits your layout.
You can also join a fixed panel or an opening window beside your French or hinged door to bring in more light. Just keep in mind that if an outward opening window sits next to the door, the door may not be able to open the full 180 degrees, even when the window is closed.
